A mountain drive in October

One of the lovely perks of having children attend university in Utah has been my autumn visits to the mountains. The rugged landscape is so beautiful as the colors change! On this trip in 2013 my son Keith took me on a drive up to Sundance ski resort up American Fork Canyon. Just me and Keith, the winding road and beautiful mountains vistas...total contentment which is so eloquently expressed by the layout quote by Anne of Green Gables.

I am a big fan of blue in combination with autumn colors. Faux leaves, handmade paper leaves, and velvet flowers create the perfect embellishment vignette for a fall layout. I cut the letters for the quote with my cricut machine, laid them to on the page before running them through the Xyron adhesive sticker maker. These letters were actually a real pain, but I soldiered on:)

Paper leaf topped with Tim Holtz distress glitter.
This paper leaf stamped with embossing ink, then embossing powder and melted with a heat tool.
The brown paper leaf is topped with giant glitter. The cream leaf was stamped and then cut out.

Stamping, glittering, and embossing paper leaves...I have a bit of a fall leaf thing...ya think?:)

Thank you for coming to Nellie's Cottage!

Nellie's Cottage participated in a business open house for our annual Black & Gold Homecoming weekend. Thanks to everyone who came, especially the ladies who were so excited about the scrapbook clearance they sat right down on the floor to go through every single piece of paper in a very large stack!
I gave away scrapbook goodies and a girl's night at this event. My hubby Michael drew the name Robin Strickland, making her our girl's night winner! Congratulations!

Nellie's Cottage on the morning show!

I got a surprise phone call last week asking if I could be on a local TV morning show for Nellie's Cottage in 2 days. Talk about panic! I immediately called Mari, my right hand girl and we went into high gear to get the cottage "company ready"...which is different from retreat ready:) There were 3 different segments, each an hour apart, and about 4 minutes long. Live TV is a bit scary:) In the the first segment I was a bit too talkative, the second one went better, and the 3rd? Well.....I forgot to turn off my mic while the reporter was still on camera and you can hear me whispering in the background! At least I was just whispering...yikes!

My novice TV skills notwithstanding, Nellie's Cottage is a most charming retreat venue, perfect for your next girl's weekend, crafting retreat, or women's business conference!

Nellie's autumn window boxes

Autumn has come to the window boxes at Nellie's Cottage! It was time...the pansies had their day in our outdoors:) Autumn is such a beautiful season in many parts of the country. Here in southeast Texas with our every dominating pine trees...not so much. Never fear, faux flowers are easily available to create our own pseudo fall! I decided to try an experiment this time with Dollar tree flowers instead of the "real deal" at my usual fabulous floral supplier. My theory to be tried is this...Do the more expensive flowers last longer in our famous Texas weather? I'll let you how it turns out.
Creamy yellow golds and muted oranges create such a beautiful ambience against the colors of my cottages, especially paired with the blue doors in different shades!
Enjoy the window box tour...
